Carbon in forest species of the Atlantic Forest as an indicator of stocks and quality

The objective is to quantify the carbon content (C) of reservoirs plant biomass different species in a fragment Atlantic Forest Northeast Brazil. Ten high absolute density were selected. We sampled from leaf and wood compartments each determine C content. There was difference levels between species. leaves varied 451.4 456.7 g kg-1. 451.7 456.8 group formed by families Burseraceae, Moraceae, Sapotaceae showed higher average leaves. Burseraceae family had highest species' wood. use pre-established (500 kg-1) may generate inconsistent estimates than real values for an environment. suggest that stock specific and/or families, contributing more realistic estimate storage patterns shoot species.Keywords: Carbon concentration; sequestration; Tropical Rainforest.
